History of the city

The headquarters of the municipality is located in the Souk El-Ahad district of Adela Deanery. Agriculture is the main official activity of the inhabitants of Batin El Ghazal, notably breeding and cultivation of olive trees. The region is also located between two mountains, including Mount Mghila, separating the governorate of Sidi Bouzid and the governorate of Kasserine, and Mount El Abyad, separating the governorate of Sidi Bouzid from the governorate of Siliana. The various mayors of Batin al-Ghazal also contain Roman archaeological areas, notably near Mount Mughila, mountain lakes and springs. This area was planned to be transformed into a recreational complex before becoming a closed military zone after 2012.
